LTTE bastion Kiranchi falls; LTTE suffers heavy casualties - Kilinochchi
The troops of the Task Force 1, Monday(Nov 10) made another crucial breakthrough at the Western Kilinochchi battlefront, as Kiranchi, a strong LTTE bastion fell into military dominance after hours of heavy fighting.
LTTE terrorists have put-on stiff resistance against the advancing troops from Kiranchi, located approximately 8.5 km Southwest of the 12th milepost from the A-32 main road. This area was heavily fortified with access routes to Veravil and Valaipadu two other LTTE bastions with the latter being considered a main sea tiger fortification in the western coast.
3 battalions of the TF -1, advanced from Nachchikuda towards Nochchimunai and then marched parallel along the coastal stretch before making inroads towards Kiranchi. LTTE terrorists occupying areas were encircled as another forward element of the TF-1, from Chunnavil met the rear battalions already positioned in the Southern perimeters of Kiranchchi.
According to military, the terrorists were engaged with artillery and heavy mortar attacks from the rear of the battle formation since early this morning, before the forward domination infantry troops swamped the Kiranchi area. LTTE resistance and counter attacks were neutralized as ground troops claimed heavy casualties to LTTE during the confrontation. "The fall of Kiranchi has stamped the military presence west of the A-32 main road, earlier than terrorists expected causing LTTE defences to thin out and scatter", a defence observer said.
Meanwhile, military citing intercepted LTTE communication revealed, heated arguments between close associates of Soosai and Velavan (two senior terrorists of LTTE), for the recent loses at the battlefront.
Earlier, it was revealed that Bhanu had accused Soosai for total negligence and lack of leadership to boost the morale of terrorists deployed along the western coast to halt the military advances.
"The LTTE dominance in the western coast is disintegrating rapidly and its tactics to stall the military surge falling apart, and this is no doubt similar to what is expected both at the central Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu battlefronts" the defence observer said.
He was also of the view, that the fall of Kiranchchi will force LTTE to abandon Valaipadu, as military mobilizes heavy guns and forward domination troops into the area.
